Pedestrians only have right of way when the law says so. Otherwise
they only get the amount of care which is properly due to them such
that if they recklessly put themselves in your path you are not
compelled to take any action which itself introduces a new danger to
yourself or other road users. Pedestrians have been sued in the past
for injuries and damage caused by their reckless use of roads, ISTR
there was a case a few years ago when someone walked in front of a
cyclist with the cyclist being seriously injured and successfully
suing the pedestrian for a six-figure sum.
